Common Ford Farm is a BRAND NEW, exclusive, gated equestrian facility currently accepting applications for boarders and clients. Sarah Todd and Carissa Baskett created programs that are tailored in Natural Dressage, Hunter/Jumpers, and Cross Country disciplines to aid in correctly developing our riders and horses from the ground up. The goal at CFF is to ensure both horse and rider are learning in a fun, but most of all, safe environment.
We believe that in order to become a good rider, one must develop a partnership and a strong "seat". Unlike some facilities looking to fill their programs with a lot of turn-over, we want each rider to learn the correct way the first time. First the partnership between horse and rider is found on the "ground" by grooming and tacking up their own horses (with supervision). In the saddle, the rider learns how ride their horses with their "seat" by developing strong core muscles to control their hips and seat bones. Horses are more willing to respond to pressures from the seat bones rather than being tugged around by the bit and reins (once they are properly trained to feel the difference). Next, the leg aids are added to the riders regimen. Riders are taught, and will feel, that excessive kicking and squeeeeeezing will not be necessary once their control in the saddle as been developed. Instead, their leg pressures will re-enforce what their seat and core are already asking the horse to perform and accomplish. Lastly, the rider will learn how to correctly and politely use their rein aids to complete the riding package. Our riders become strong, talented, and a pleasure to watch. Once these theories are learned, developed and practiced, our riders can advance horses and stages in their riding found few and far between. We here at CFF believe that with commitment and perseverance, anyone can be an amazing equestrian athlete.
CFF is conveniently located a few miles off of I-85 and only minutes away from downtown Concord. The stable is in a prime location and set on top of the beautiful rolling hills and surrounded by pines for privacy (directions on how to get to the farm).
